Build Your Scholarship Granting Organization for 2027.

Beginning in 2027, individual taxpayers may claim a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit of up to $1,700 for qualifying cash contributions to listed SGOs, subject to federal rules.

The SGO Advantage

A qualified Scholarship Granting Organization receives eligible cash contributions and awards scholarships for qualified K–12 educational expenses. Donors—not scholarship recipients—may claim the federal credit, subject to Section 25F and IRS requirements.

501(c)(3) status alone does not make an organization SGO-ready. An existing or newly formed charity must satisfy Section 25F requirements and be included on a participating state’s SGO list.

Common Questions

What is an SGO?

An SGO is a specialized nonprofit entity designed to manage scholarship grants and qualify for the $1,700 federal education tax credit under IRC Section 25F, starting in 2027.

Is a 501(c)(3) enough?

No. While a 501(c)(3) is a foundation, it is not automatically SGO-ready. Specific bylaws, policies, and operational structures are required to meet federal eligibility criteria.

How do I start the process?

We provide a step-by-step roadmap to guide you through state registration, EIN acquisition, and the implementation of SGO-specific governance and compliance protocols.

What are the compliance costs?
